Every piece of pottery is handmade starting as a ball of clay and thrown on a wheel, hand built, sculptured or all three.
We use quality clay and glazes and usually fire at about 2300 degrees F. There is a lot of time put into each face jug. The jugs are created one at a time, and then set aside to dry for 1 or 2 days. After this drying time the face is created on the jug by hand building. It is then set aside to dry for 1 to 2 weeks. Then we put them in a Kiln to fire to a biscuit for about 15 hours. We take them out after letting them cool about 18 hours. Then we glaze these whimsical folk art pottery face jugs and let the glaze dry for 24 hours. They are now put in the kiln for about another 8 hours. After cooling in the kiln for another day they come out ready to market.
As you can see there is a lot of time and labor that goes into this process. For safety's sake, we do not use any lead or cadmium in our glazes.
It is our hope that others will enjoy owning these whimsical folk art pottery face jugs as much as we have enjoyed making them. Every handmade item carries a piece of the maker’s heart and soul. These face jugs are great home decorations and make great gifts.
